1962 Candy Fashion Doll
The large box containing a 1962 Deluxe Reading Candy Fashion Doll plus wardrobe was found at the flea market. Candy is 20 in., all vinyl with jointed elbows and knees. The head is marked “21 HH/K 60”. These dolls were sold only at food markets for $12.98. She came with a wardrobe of four outfits with accessories.
1960s Wendy Doll
In the early 1950’s, to compete with the popular Ginny by Vogue, Madame Alexander produced an 8 in. Wendy doll. This is a 1960’s Wendy in Sewing Basket, an F.A.O. Schwarz special. It came with a 7 in. hard plastic Wendy doll, sewing supplies, and pre-cut clothing with instructions.
1964 GI Joe
In the early 1950’s I was in high school, not thinking about dolls anymore. A few more years brought graduation from college, marriage, three sons and a daughter. It was 1964 and I had only bought one doll, a 12 in. plastic GI Joe with life like hair. He has been gently played with and I still have the box. Selecting gifts for my daughter, Elaine, started me thinking about dolls again and collecting resumed.
